I am sure you have heard of the so called Hollow Earth concept. You know, the idea that earth is a big old hollow ball, with an inner environment that plays host to a super-advanced, super secretive culture, replete with flying saucers and all sorts of other exotic, fantastical things!
No doubt you have heard the stories. I’m talking about such alleged truthful accounts as Willis George Emerson’s 1908 tale, The Smoky God and the American naval Admiral Byrd’s 1947 antarctic expedition report.
Maybe you have heard much more recent tales from alleged whistleblowers testifying to the existence of a hollow earth. (I think you will find some entertaining claims on Geia)
From a scientific perspective, a big problem with hollow-Earth setups (there have been a few proposed concepts ) is that there is a requirement for the insides of a planet to be in what’s called “hydrostatic equilibrium”; that is to say, apparently a planet cannot be hollow. This is because a stable planet’s inside pressure force must exactly balance the force due to gravity.
As with many mainstream scientific treatments of laughable conspiratorial nonsense, not much thought goes into debunking said nonsense, shutting the door to any creative thinking as it is considered not worth the effort.
I think this is dangerous because if unscientific claims are left unchecked, you get breakaway cults of ignorance as evidenced by the likes of the flat earth society and its followers.
So I’d like to assume that the earth does in indeed consists of a crust, a mantle and another inner crust. I’ll say that Equilibrium can be achieved if there is a mantle that is bounded by two crusts with a positive pressure applied from any actual cavity inside. You have both an inner atmospheric pressure and of course the centrifugal force.
I’ll also suggest that an inner sun scenario is possible if said sun is a nuclear fission star. Whatever a fission star is, I am sure it puts out some sort of pressurized field of some kind. Bet you never heard of a fission star!
Correct me if I’m wrong here. What do you think will happen in the hypothesized scenario above? Will the mantle swell up? Will it get thinner? Will it stay the same? What will happen if the planet is spinning? What will happen if there is a positive pressure inside the hollow area pushing outwards (the fission star for example)? So many hypothetical questions!
Well, I think that these sort of questions need a more rigorous scientific treatment because extraordinary claims are being made now. I’d hate to think that a whole bunch of “hollow tards” or whatever will start having conventions and veering innocent well thinking people away from rational and scientific truth! By the way, you heard the phrase hollow-tard here first! lol I anticipate something similar to the flat earth debate will emerge as the hollow earth idea gets more traction. Of course I’d be amazed and delighted if planets do indeed form as hollow spheres and that there is an advanced civilization below us, waiting for the violent, primitive warmongering surface dwellers to grow up and wake up to a wider more amazing world!
